The LA Galaxy delivered a much-needed performance Wednesday night, defeating the Portland Timbers 2–0 at Dignity Health Sports Park. Marco Reus led the way with a goal and an assist, helping Los Angeles secure three valuable points as the regular season approaches its conclusion.

Coming into the matchup, both sides had plenty to play for, but it was the Galaxy who made their opportunities count. Despite Portland producing more shots and controlling possession for stretches of the game, Los Angeles displayed the defensive discipline and clinical finishing needed to secure the result.

The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Reus found the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season, giving the Galaxy a 1–0 advantage. His finish provided an important lift for Los Angeles and put Portland on the back foot early in the contest.

The opening goal gave the Galaxy momentum, but Portland continued to search for an equalizer. The Timbers finished with 12 total shots compared with the Galaxy’s nine, while both teams recorded five shots on target. Despite generating opportunities, Portland struggled to find a way past the Galaxy’s defense.

Goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski played a key role in preserving the advantage, recording five saves and earning his fourth clean sheet of the regular season. His performance proved important as the Timbers looked to find a breakthrough and get back into the match.

The Galaxy delivered the decisive blow in the 80th minute. Reus stepped up to take a free kick just outside the penalty area, sending a lofted delivery into the box. Defender Justin Haak rose above the Portland defense and directed a header into the net, doubling the Galaxy’s lead and putting the match beyond the Timbers’ reach.

With the victory, Los Angeles improved to 10-11-9, reaching 39 points, while Portland fell to 9-14-6 with 33 points. The result gives the Galaxy an opportunity to build momentum as they continue their pursuit of a postseason place.

With another matchup against San Diego FC approaching, Los Angeles will look to carry Wednesday night’s confidence into its next test.

For the Galaxy, every point matters as the season winds down.
